2016

The Southern California Garden Club proudly awarded four scholarships in 2016. The scholarships were available to outstanding high school seniors or college students who reside within Los Angeles, Ventura or San Bernardino Counties.

To receive the scholarship, a student must have been accepted and enrolled in a two or four-year college or university in a program focusing on Horticulture, Botany, Biology, Earth science or a related major before the end of 2016.

In June we recognized and honored four deserving candidate winners of our SCGC Scholarships.

This year’s high school winner is Crystal Vargas. She is a student at Chatsworth Charter High School and plans to attend UC Riverside to pursue Environmental Science.

Our college/adult level winners include

Srividya Krishnan, attending Mt. San Antonio Community College. She is majoring in Ornamental Horticulture while working and volunteering in the horticulture field. She’s a mom too and very busy.

Edward Del Grosso will attend California State Polytechnic University in Pomona to pursue the field of Plant Science with a career goal of Urban Agriculture Architect. He is working in the campus green house.

Nykael Williams who also attends Cal Poly Pomona pursuing a degree in Plant Science. Nykael was head of the decorating committee for the Rose Parade Float Program. He has received other special scholarships related to Ornamental Horticulture.

Winners were invited to join us for lunch following the June meeting.

Again, thank you to all the members who donated to this year’s scholarship fund.

This is a wonderful opportunity for eligible students.
